After 35 years in prison for a political protest that left a police officer dead, Cathy (played by Cindy Pastorius) makes a last-ditch effort to be paroled when she learns that Ann (played by Mary Grace Weir), the prison’s administrator, is retiring. While incarcerated Cathy, an intellectual from a prominent Jewish family, believes she has done her best to redeem herself – which includes converting to Christianity. Can Ann be convinced to parole her as an act of grace? Or will their convoluted history, personal opinions, pleas from the officer’s family, and Ann’s own measured suspicions condemn Cathy to remain behind bars for the rest of her life?
Expect surprises upon surprises in this tense thriller by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet, as these two women face off over freedom, power, money, religion, and class differences.
