The tiny town of Leenane in Galway, Ireland. Early 1990s. Maureen Folan lives in a little house, caring for her elderly mother, Mag. They have lived like this for 20 years, and Maureen feels trapped, doomed to watch others live their own lives while she rots away. One day a neighbour, Ray Dooley, stops by to invite her to a party. In attendance will be his older brother Pato - Maureen's crush from long ago. Suddenly there seems to be hope for a future, for romance, for a life beyond caregiving. What happens next leads to both bliss and tragedy in Martin McDonagh's modern fairy tale.
